Born in Ningxia in 1968, Tai Xiangzhou received training in calligraphy and began studying traditional ink painting with Liu Dan in 2004, before gaining his doctoral degree from the Academy of Arts and Design at Tsinghua University in 2012. A seasoned veteran in the conservation and restoration of classical Chinese paintings, Tai is celebrated for his scrupulous explorations of the materiality of ink and paper in his artistic practice. Inspired by his experience with and research on the history of materials, he recreates ancient ink from the Qianlong period and Cheng Xin Tang paper from Southern Tang. The meticulousness and vibrancy with which Tai renders his subjects - hyper-realistic scholar's rocks, lofty mountains and fantastical landscapes - reconfigure the age-old themes into modern spectacles of transcendental beauty. Tai's anachronism is firmly bound to the classical tradition of ink painting, albeit with a contemporary twist.

泰祥洲《天象》系列受古人夜觀天象，通過觀察星晨變化來洞悉天下形勢的世界觀啓發，而去探尋山水畫圖式與多宇宙觀的內在關聯。仰觀垂象向為中國古代宇宙哲學觀重要組成部分之一，漢代天文學家張衡亦曾通過觀測天象而判斷五行變化及萬物生息之機。泰氏熟諳天文歷史，亦研究和論述了諸多歷代名畫的圖式與畫理，他筆下的奇石既似表面凹凸不平的流星隕石簇擁雲海，氣象氤氳，又可轉化為傳統古法山水，以筆與墨的意境去參透宇宙萬物造化的奧秘。 泰祥洲 (1968年生) 展覽 (精選) 2014 民政總署 (澳門) – 個展 Ben Brown 畫廊 (香港) – 聯展 2013 The Chinese Porcelain Company (美國 紐約) – 個展 2012 Gallery 8畫廊 (英國倫敦) – 聯展 2011 北京大學 (中國) – 個展 798橋藝術空間 (中國北京) – 個展 Kurhaus Kolonnade藝術論壇 (德國威斯 巴登) – 聯展 2010 今日美術館 (中國北京) – 聯展 2009 中國美術館 (中國北京) – 聯展 收藏機構 哈佛大學賽克勒博物館 (美國麻省) 杜克大學納瑟爾藝術博物館 (美國北卡羅萊納州) 北京大學賽克勒博物館 (中國北京) 中華書局 (中國北京) 泰祥洲，一九六八年生於銀川，自幼學習書法和 繪畫，擅長書畫裝裱及古代書畫修復。泰氏自 二〇〇四年起師從劉丹，隨其學習中國傳統水墨 畫，並於二〇一二年畢業於清華大學美術學院，獲得博士學位，研究唐宋明清等朝代造紙技法。通過臨摹古代大師作品，泰氏全面認識古代繪畫，並深入研究中國山水畫的根源。得益於早年學習裝裱和修復的經歷，泰氏對繪畫材質十分敏感，且有獨到研究。他使用乾隆時期的古墨和仿澄心堂古紙進行創作，畫面中透露出他對水墨傳統的熟諳。在傳統的繪畫圖式之下，泰氏以現代人的視角，通過山石、樹木與河流表達自己對世界和宇宙的理解。透過畫面，他將內心對風景直觀性的洞悉，轉化成畫作，向歷代水墨大師致敬。
