Lot Essay

These panels are very similar to those in a pair of doors made in AH 817/1414-15 AD for the elebi Sultan Mehmed Medresi in Merzifon, North Anatolia (The Anatolian Civilisations, exhibition catalogue, Istanbul, 1983, no.D.172, pp.90-91). The fleshier leaves, the inclusion of incipient lattices, and the small rounded terminals are all indications of an Anatolian rather than Syrian or Egyptian origin.
