A George III oak longcase clock, circa 1790
The hood with stylised swan neck cresting and dentil cornice mouldings, lyre sound frets, with outset fluted columns with Corinthian capitals, pagoda arch trunk door, the plinth with carved base and on bun feet, the 13in. cut-away brass dial with brass Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the centre with concentric calendar ring and foliate scroll engraving, blued steel hands, signed on a circular disc in the arch Tho. Smoult So. Shields, the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 89½in. (227cm.) high
