by Jean-Joseph Barrière (fl. 1763-1793), marked, Paris, 1776/1777, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache, inventory number 1601 and later French and Dutch control marks
Oval box, the cover, side and base panels enamelled in translucent orange on engine-turned vertical coin-pattern stripes, within borders of white enamel dots, the cover centred with an oval enamel plaque of a lady with basket standing in front of a peasant couple seated in a classical riverside landscape, within frosted gold frame applied with translucent green enamelled leaves and red ribbons, the borders and side pilasters similarly adorned
