This January, Christie’s New York will introduce Modern Medici: Masterpieces from a New York Collection, a jewel-like group of masterpieces from the fields of Old Master Paintings, Renaissance and Baroque sculpture and European Furniture. Highlights of the sale include magnificent Florentine and Northern sculpture by Giambologna, Susini, Foggini and Tetrode, a spectacular table by Giacomo Raffaelli, a masterpiece of the art of pietre dure and sculptural gilt bronze work, Lucas Cranach’s Portrait of a lady and Pieter Claesz’ dazzling still-life of An overturned silver tazza, a partly peeled lemon and an olive on a silver plate, walnuts, hazelnuts and a knife on a draped table.
