Carl Dahl studied with I.P. Moller, G.F. Hetsch (perspective) and C.W. Eckersberg (marine). He travelled to Düsseldorf, Cologne, Holland, Brussels, Paris, Norway and London. He was especially interested in Eckersberg's teachings of perspective, which he himself ended up teaching. Carl Dahl is represented in several museums andthe Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen has a painting almost similar to the present one 'View of Larsens Plads'.
