From the Parisian studios of the Impressionists to the downtown lofts of post-war New York, the sale presents masterpieces from across the century, featuring works by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Alexander Calder, Richard Diebenkorn and David Hockney. This season also presents a significant selection of monumental sculpture by pioneering artists including Henry Moore, Isamu Noguchi and David Smith.
Highlights of the November sale possess remarkable provenance, hailing from pre-eminent private collections and unparalleled institutional holdings. Christie’s is honoured to present Property from the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art in Japan, where groundbreaking works by Monet, Renoir and Chagall shine alongside pieces by post-war artists such as Lee Ufan. The sale also includes seminal American masterpieces by John Singer Sargent within In Pursuit of Light: The Collection of Carol and Terry Wall.
In line with the 100th anniversary of Joan Mitchell’s birth, the auction showcases a significant work by the female Abstract Expressionist within Elaine: The Collection of Elaine Wynn, which also features a diverse array of iconic works by artists ranging from Joseph Mallord William Turner to Wayne Thiebaud.
