As International Specialist Head of Chinese Paintings, Kim Yu is responsible for conducting appraisals and overseeing the bi-annual sales of Chinese paintings in Hong Kong, as well as working closely with colleagues in New York and Europe to further develop the market for Chinese paintings. Mr. Yu began learning traditional Chinese painting at the age of 15 in Taiwan as an apprentice. He studied under Sun Yunsheng, who was a pupil of Zhang Daqian. Mr. Yu is very knowledgeable in the styles of different classical painting schools. Mr. Yu joined Christie’s Taiwan in 1998, assisting with business-getting, appraisals, exhibitions and auction details. In mid-1999, he joined the department in Hong Kong, focusing on property management, catalogue editing and departmental business.
