Our June Asian Art sales, held in Paris as part of the Printemps Asiatique, exceeded their high estimate, with a total of €5,665,086.
Sought-after imperial porcelain drew strong interest from collectors — Highlight of the sale, a blue and white porcelain bowl decorated with a five-clawed dragon and counted among the pieces collected by Emperor Xuande, soared to three times its estimate after remaining in a French private collection for over a century.
Two Wucai porcelain bowls decorated with dragons and phoenixes (Qing dynasty) exceeded their estimates tenfold, while a rare Tibetan gilt-copper figure of Maitreya, crafted by the atelier of Sonam Gyaltse in the 15th century, captivated bidders.
Finally, two works from the sale have been acquired by the Musée Guimet: a gilt-bronze sculpture of Shakyamuni majestically seated on a lotus base, and a Tibetan Yab-Yum figure in polychrome clay, also dating from the 15th century.
