AN UNUSUAL QUARTZ CRYSTAL, CLOISONNE AND CHAMPLEVE ENAMEL LOTUS BASKET
QIANLONG INCISED FOUR-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The basket is formed with jagged carved crystal supporting a cloisonné enamel platform decorated with multi-hued lotus scrolls surrounding the central aperture which contains sprays of lotus blossoms, leaves and pods, naturalistically rendered in champlevé enamel with shaded petals, veining and worm-eaten holes, the basket set with an upright arched gilt-bronze handle incised with floral scrolls and the reign mark on the interior surface, all raised on a gilt-wood pedestal with frothing waves and sea creatures (the base a later replacement)
