Christie’s Middle East

Springtime in Dubai heralds the return of Modern and Contemporary Art Dubai, celebrating cross-cultural dialogues between modern and contemporary artists from the Middle East and the wider Global South.

Highlights from our online auction taking place from 9 to 31 May include works by internationally recognised female artists such as Monir Farmanfarmaian and Manal Al Dowayan, along with contemporary pieces by Kader Attia, Oscar Murillo and Zak Ové. The sale also pays tribute to the rich artistic heritage of the Middle East and North Africa with significant works by Marwan, Abdul Halim Radwi, Mohamed Melehi and Ahmed Cherkaoui, among others. All of this and more will be on view at our Dubai galleries from 18–31 May, open to all daily.

Christie’s is also proud to announce our continued participation in the 2024 edition of the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale in Riyadh from 20 February to 24 May, with a curated series of lectures, panel discussions and specialist-led tours. This year’s edition, entitled After Rain, aims to bring international recognition and awareness of the burgeoning art scene in Saudi Arabia, and we are proud to support the Diriyah Biennale Foundation’s commitment to promoting cultural dialogue within the country’s dynamic artistic landscape. The event, encompassing an exhibition of over 177 artworks by 100 artists from over 40 countries, alongside talks, performances, workshops and creative experiences, takes place in the JAX District in Diriyah, home to the UNESCO world heritage site of Al-Turaif.

Last year, Christie’s partnered with the Ministry of Culture and Youth, United Arab Emirates, and the Barjeel Art Foundation in which we staged Kawkaba and Emirati Art Reimagined: Hassan Sharif and the Contemporary Voices, the largest showcase of modern and contemporary art to be exhibited in London, and in the summer of 2024, we look forward to showcasing the work of Ahmed Mater in our London galleries.
