The Cricket Player’s Pocket Companion. Boston: Mayhew and Baker, 1860. 12° (140 x 88mm). 34pp. + one leaf of advertisements. Wood-engraved frontispiece, line drawings and diagrams. Original light brown limp cloth, front cover with gilt lettering and figure of a batsman. (Front cover with slight wear at bottom right hand corner and with two light stains, rear cover with small creasemark, light sunfading). Provenance: D. Adams (pencil signature; possibly his small bookplate of the American eagle surmounting the stars and stripes).
FIRST SEPARATE EDITION, with advertisement for Pycroft's Cricket Field. Mayhew and Baker published Pycroft's book in the same year as the Pocket Companion, and an advertisement for it replaces The Pocket Schoolmaster on the last page; the announcement on p. 4. is also dropped. A GOOD, CLEAN COPY. Padwick 386-1.
