Our 20th and 21st Century Art auctions in New York achieved $1,453,504,726 — the highest total ever for our May marquee auctions — with strong participation from the US, Asia and around the world. Record-setting results for Jackson Pollock’s Number 17A, 1948, which realised $181,185,000, Constantin Brancusi’s Danaïde, which sold for $107,585,000 and Mark Rothko’s No. 15 (Two Greens and Red Stripe) at $98,385,000 led a week defined by spirited bidding in the room, on the phones and online. Distinguished private collections from Si Newhouse, Agnes Gund, Marian Goodman and Henry S.
