Lot Essay

A closely related tray from Dumfries House is illustrated in Christopher Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol.II, p.276, pl.505. Gilbert identifies this as 'To a large mahogany comp Teatray wt a neat cut rim 1.16-' supplied by Chippendale on 4 March 1763.
