Lot Essay

L'Anconetta is a small island near Marghera, near Mestre, on which was a small church called Sta. Maria dell'Anconetta.

In addition to listing the present picture (as in the possession of the family by whom it is now being sold), Constable (op.cit.) was evidently unaware that it is one and the same as the Orrock picture which he lists separately and as 'untraced'.
