The Arms and Armour department encompasses millennia of history from Viking swords to late 20th century sporting guns. Within this vibrant sale category edged weapons and armour can be found from Eastern and Western Europe, Asia, Africa and the Far East with pieces as diverse as an Indian katar push-dagger, a Caucasian yataghan sword, and a lobster-tailed pot helmet dating from the English civil war. Firearms are also strongly represented, ranging from the 17th century wheel-lock to the modern sidelock ejector shotgun, and we particularly specialise in classic British makes such as Purdey and Holland & Holland. These are offered alongside Militaria including helmets, cuirass and swords.
As well as curating dedicated specialist sales within this genre, we place selected pieces across Christie’s auctions including Decorative Arts, the European Noble & Private Collection, and the hugely popular Out of the Ordinary sale, all based at our South Kensington salerooms. Arms and armour can also be bought and consigned at our House Sales and Private Collection sales held in London, Paris and New York.
