Why Christie’s
The 20th/21st Century Autumn Auctions in Hong Kong concluded with a robust sale total of HK$817,277,400 / US$105,529,147, reaffirming Christie’s market leadership in Asia.
The Evening Sale was led by Pablo Picasso’s Buste de Femme, sold for HK$196.75 million / US$25.4 million, setting a new auction record for the artist in Asia. Another highlight was Zao Wou-Ki’s 17.3.63, which realised HK$85,200,000 / US$11,001,263. Together with Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Sabado por la Noche sold in May, Christie’s has now sold the top three most valuable 20th and 21st Century works this year in Asia.
The Day Sales also contributed to the season’s success, achieving a remarkable 97% sell-through rate, and a hammer price of 136% above the low estimate. Strong results were recorded across all price bands, further demonstrating broad market engagement and the diversity of demand across collecting segments.
With a meticulously curated selection of works, the sale series was 96% sold by lot, and total hammer price reached 121% above the low estimate. These results reflect Christie’s deep market insight, strategic execution, global reach, and the continued ability to bring exceptional works to market and engage collectors with expertise and excellence.
