Ottoman Turkish manuscript on paper, 9ll. of alterating red, green, and black diwani on gold-speckled ground, beneath a green and gold illuminated tughra of Sultan Mahmud II, with a line of green diwani above, dated, further seal in black and red in the bottom left corner, reverse with witness signature

Lot Essay

This firman is addressed to 'Abdullah Agha, head of endowments of the Two Holy Mosques of Mecca and Medina, to approve an endowment of Farashat which is then to be implemented by Mustafa Jaber, the acting endowments supervisor for the Two Holy Mosques. The endowment of Farashat was from Mustafa bin Afkham and intended for the Holy Rawdah in the Mosque of the Prophet in Medina. Other similar firmans of Sultan Mahmud II were sold in these Rooms 07 April 2011, lot 338, and 21 October 2015, lot 389.
