Pilar Ordovas

Pilar began her career in the Post War & Contemporary team in London in 2000, having joined Christie's in 1996. Starting as a research assistant, Pilar was promoted six months later to junior specialist in March 2001, and in March 2003 she became a specialist. In March 2006, Pilar was made Head of the Evening Sale for Post-War & Contemporary Art in London and June 2006, she was appointed Head of Post War & Contemporary Art in London. During this time, Christie's has become the market leader in Post-War & Contemporary Art in Europe.
Ms Ordovas's specialist expertise is in the London School, and particularly works by Bacon and Freud, as well as Spanish Post War and Contemporary Art. Among the significant works that Ms Ordovas has been responsible for having consigned to auction are the Lucian Freud, Red Haired Man on a Chair, which sold in February 2005 for £4,152,000, establishing a new world record at auction for a Freud painting; Francis Bacon, Self-Portrait, which sold in February 2006 for £4,600,000, and in June 2006 the Francis Bacon triptych, Three studies for a self-portrait, which achieved £3.4m.
Ms Ordovas, a Spanish national, graduated in 1995 with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Art History, specialising in Early Modern & Contemporary from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and Edinburgh University.
