Modern British & Irish Art

The Modern British & Irish Art department offers paintings, sculpture and works on paper by some of the leading artists of the 20th century, such as Peter Blake, Bridget Riley, Lucian Freud, Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth and L. S. Lowry. Ranging from early British Modernism to the present day, the category includes British Pop Art, Cornish Abstraction, the School of London, Vorticism and the Camden Town Group.

In November 2011, Christie’s became the first auction house to hold an evening sale entirely dedicated to Modern British Art. Our commitment to promoting British art, an integral part of our 250-year legacy, is unmatched by any other auction house.

Christie’s regularly holds both Evening and Day sales in this category, as well as mid-season sales and important single-owner collections. Our Modern British Art specialist team has over 150 years of shared expertise in the market for this category, making us the most experienced team in the business. Working closely with our 20th century international colleagues enables us to leverage our network of buyers and sellers for the benefit of our clients.
