Lot Essay

In “The Breakfast” Eniwaye Oluwaseyi is exploring the idea of shared spaces. “I figured the first place where sharing begins is the home (from the very first meal). Everyone is gathered and there is no priority over anyone.”

Eniwaye Oluwaseyi is a Nigeria born contemporary artist. Born in Ilorin, Kwara state on the 17th of October, 1994. He hails from Kogi state, but presently lives and practices in Kwara state. He holds a B. Eng. in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering from the University of Ilorin. His interest and love for art has been evident since he was a child, as he would draw and paint cartoon characters on any surface he finds suitable. He took interest in art after coming across an art tutorial video on YouTube during his third year in the university in the year 2015, and ever since, has been on a personal creative journey learning how to draw and paint.
Oluwaseyi is a self-taught artist working in oil, charcoal and acrylic on canvas. His practice is primarily centred around a contemporary approach in his portrait paintings. He uses bold and vivid tones, representing human figures in grisaille and brunaille in striking realism to give his paintings a strong physical presence. "I try to combine unusual mediums to show I go beyond the borders of religion, race and traditions" he says.

Artist Statement
The body of work is about Surviving under the pressure of' 'modern" life, highlighting the social and political identity as well as how it's been defined   while also question our existence in a shared space.
Using this to translate narratives of identity and class.
This shared spaces has created a vacuum of uncertainty and making it unclear who has priority.  By this, I try to capture individual in a unique and less dominant manner in other to reduce class but improving the uniqueness in our consistence.
I chose vibrant colours to highlight the term '"person of Color" in such a way that we are majestic people and the clothes shows we are also People of calibre and should be respected.
