Wearing a chiton and transverse himation, with linear folds, a double row of tight curls frames her head, she holds an offering in her right hand clasped to her breast, her left arm down by her side, archaic features, lower part missing, mounted
9.7/8 in. (25 cm.) high

A handwritten accompanying label reads: "Sale Sotheby 13/6/44, lot 144 ... formerly the property of the late Col. Sir E. Hildred Carlisle, Bt. C.B.C. The lots 128-147 were found by the staff of Mr James Stevenson on the edge of the crater of the volcano on the Island of Volcano, one of the Lipari Islands which he bought about 1840."
