A GERMAN WHEEL-LOCK HOLSTER PISTOL with two-stage barrel swamped at the muzzle and struck on the octagonal breech with maker's mark of Andreas Wesenau (Neue Støckel 5743) together with the Augsburg mark, plain flat lock with sliding pan-cover, safety-catch, and wheel-cover pierced and engraved with two sea monsters, flat cock engraved with two monster-heads, ebony-veneered full stock inlaid with foliate engraved horn plaques and two horn plaques opposite the lock engraved as winged grotesque demi-figures, all within roped, foliate and plain lines, compessed ball pommel inlaid with horn roundels engraved with flowerheads divided by roped and plain lines, and iron trigger-guard (the lock and barrel with later blueing, much of the inlay replaced, ramrod missing), circa 1580
