D.C.M. London Gazette 12.3.1917 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has rendered the most valuable services throughout, and has at all times set a splendid example of courage and endurance'.

Warrant Officer Class 1 Ernest F. Alexander, D.C.M., first entered the French Theatre of War in mid-April 1915. He had earlier served in the Royal Field Artillery.
