Lot Essay
Also known as the Westmoreland artist, George Gottfried Ephraim Burger was described as "fluent in five languages, in demand as a writer of deeds and wills, employed at one time in the office of the recorder or deeds, a translator of books and a painter." He arrived in America in 1816 was married to Elisabeth Schumacher and had thirteen children.
This lot and the two following lots are Birth and Baptismal records for three children of Peter and Maria George. Lot 691 is for Abigail, in Hempfield Township, lot 692 is for Elizabeth in North Huntington Township and the third, lot 693 is for Peter in Franklin Township.
