Lot Essay

We are grateful to Claudia Salvi for confirming the attribution to Monnoyer, from a transparency (written communication, 15 August 2006). Ms. Salvi counts this still life among Monnoyer's finest works, dating it to the artist's French period, circa 1670-80. This work will be included in her forthcoming catalogue raisonné on Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer.
