A FINELY CARVED MING CINNABAR LACQUER BOX AND COVER
MING DYNASTY, 16TH/17TH CENTURY

Of circular form, finely carved to both the cover and base in high relief with boys at play, on one side depicting three boys in a garden setting, one riding a hobby horse, one holding a lotus leaf canopy aloft, and the last beating a gong to lead the way, the other side with two boys, one holding a bird cage while the other playfully holds a bow and aims at a bird in flight above
