How to sell

A GREEK MARBLE HEAD OF A KORE
ARCHAIC PERIOD, CIRCA 550-530 B.C.
Wearing stephane and disc earrings, with centrally parted hair falling in diagonal waves across forehead, with horizontal undulations over crown of forehead and long vertical tresses at back of neck, the ear tragus appearing as a round protrusion, wear to features, mounted
6½ in. (16.5 cm.) high

With Galerie Nefer, Zurich, mid 1980s.
Private collection, Switzerland.

Specialist note

For the treatment of the ear, in particular the protruding tragus, and the way the stephane rests against the back of the ear, this kore finds parallels with heads on Ionian column-drum reliefs.
