Oblong 2o (420 x 561 mm). Text in Italian and French, double-column. Lithographic title by F. Casanova after G. Pancaldi and 25 lithographic plates by Zannoti, Corty and F. Casanova after Basoli, published by V. Marchi, printed on india paper and mounted. (Small stain on title, some foxing to plates.) (Some pale browning to text, pale stain in upper margin of last ten leaves.) Late 19th-century half vellum, gilt-lettered vellum label on front cover (some minor soiling). Provenance: acquired from Bromer Booksellers, 2001.

FIRST EDITION. A superb alphabet series, executed by noted theater designed Antonio Basoli. Here he juxtaposes letter forms with architectonics to create imaginative structures around 24 letters of the Italian alphabet, as well as the ampersand symbol. RARE: no copies have sold in at least 35 years, according to American Book Prices Current. An undated edition was published in 1844. Bonacini 151.
