Saint James the Greater

This picture, depicting the Apostle James the Greater, provides yet further evidence of the early popularity of Van Dyck's Apostle Series, which were executed during his early career in Antwerp. They are modelled on Rubens' Apostolado Lerma series, copies of which Rubens kept in his studio.
