Lot Essay

Iconic and somber image picturing Gehrig shaking hands with new Yankees first baseman Babe Dahlgren after Gehrig removed himself from the lineup due to his progressing illness. Black and white photo measures 7"x9" stamped/dated by Acme Newspictures on the back retaining its original paper i.d. labeling. Front has some surface creasing to a few areas primarily along the perimeter. There was great speculation as to why Gehrig had removed himself from the lineup and while not mentioned in the photo i.d. labeling, the reason was of course tragically confirmed with a matter of weeks.
