Kristen France joined the department in 2010, bringing a broad range of experience to the team having held various positions in contemporary art galleries and institutions throughout New York City. As head of the department, Kristen has helped to adapt the category to an ever-evolving market, by broadening the reach of established artists as well as fostering the growth of markets for emerging artists. Most notably, Kristen has been responsible for achieving new records and exceptional prices for works by Remedios Varo, Leonora Carrington, Diego Rivera, Fernando Botero, Olga de Amaral, and Tomás Sánchez, among others.
Kristen continues to support the market for Spanish colonial art, and has placed key works from the era in important private collections, foundations and museums across the globe.
In addition to auction, Kristen has also driven important engagement initiatives for Christie’s, most notably, spearheading private sale exhibitions in our regional pop-up galleries, and at our Rockefeller Center location.
Kristen holds a Master’s in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, and a BA in Art History and Spanish Language and Literature from Duke University.

In 2023, she organized Historias/Histories, a private selling exhibition of works by contemporary Latinx artists, the first at an international auction house.
Prior to joining Christie’s she held several positions in the museum and for-profit art sectors, including Senior Curator, Bronx Museum of the Arts; Director of Visual Arts, Americas Society; and Chief Curator, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, as well as Vice President and Specialist, Latin American Art at Sotheby’s in New York.

In addition to her work in the art market, Diana has taught undergraduate seminars and surveys in art history at Rutgers University and Pratt Institute. Diana holds a BA in art history from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in art history from Rutgers University, where she focused on traveler artists in Latin America.
