GEORGE JONES, manufacturer

A "Lazy Susan" revolving pottery serving-dish, transfer printed in green with motifs of tennis nets, rackets and balls, the top with scalloped gilt rim, attributed to George Jones and Sons, late 19th century, 470mm width, height 100mm., without visible maker's marks (chip to rim, some wear to transfers).

George Jones's "Lazy Susan" was designed to accomodate six tea cups and saucers with an undesignated central space for teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl. Known examples are extremely few and green is a particularly rare colour. See Jean Cherry, Tennis Antiques and Collectibles, 1995, p. 131, illustrating an example in red and black.
