Osman Nuri Bey then Pasha, also known as Ghazi Osman Pasha (d. 1900), was an Ottoman field marshal who commanded Ottoman forces during the Siege of Plevna in 1877. He was awarded the title of Ghazi ("warrior" or "veteran") for chivalry in holding the city for five months against superior Russo-Romanian forces. Although ultimately unsuccessful in defending the city his bravery was highly acknowledged. Our firman which is dated 1877 celebrates his Ghazi title and services. In addition to his adjutancy title, Osman received the Order of the Medjidie and the Imtiyaz Medal for his services to the Empire.
