A fine oxidised-brass Henderson's-pattern theodolite,
signed on the silvered compass dial Negretti & Zambra LONDON, with edge-bar needle and clamp, twin vernier scales, the limb with level and cross bubble, and arranged for use with two detachable vertical string and cruciform sights, or the alternative vertical half-circle with rack and pinion adjustment, spoked support engraved on one side with a scale for Undertie in a Fathom, on the other side a scale divided in two quadrants, the upper limb incorporating the telescope with rack and pinion focusing, cross spider's web and dust cap, with bubble level, compass cover, contained in the original mahogany carrying case -- 105/8in. (27cm.) wide
