Daniel Senise (b. 1855)

Ivo Mesquita states in the catalogue Territorio dos sentidos that Daniel Senise's paintings established a direct relationship with the history of art, with the universe of images and its ways of constructing and perceiving. The artist shows a commitment to painting as a language and his work as a whole shows an articulate orchestration of signifiers. In Senise's paintings the medium of expression itself, the flat surface, appropriation, representation, perception, mass culture, and his individual imagery, share the pictorial space in works that are not afraid of placing painting at the forefront of artistic creation.
