Each with lambrequin toprail and pierced vase-shaped splat, flanked by scrolling supports, above a serpentine seat covered in yellow and white floral silk, on cabriole legs headed by shells and foliage, on hoof feet, some ears replaced, restorations, one back leg and one stile spliced and repaired (6)

The use of swagged drapery along the toprail appears on a pair of Irish chairs sold anonymously, Sotheby's New York, 24 October 1992, lot 230; while the bold shell motif on the legs issuing foliage appears on numerous pieces of Irish mahogany furniture, including an Irish George II side table sold anonymously in these Rooms, 23 April 1998, lot 102.
