WILDE, Oscar (1854-1900). Lord Arthur Savile's Crime and Other Stories. London: James R. Osgood, 1891.
8o. Original decorated boards (a bit rubbed).
FIRST EDITION. "This volume contains four tales--a murder story, a mystery story, a ghost story, and a love story--all written as sprightly as the most famous of Oscar Wilde's epigrams. The significance of the murder story, Lord Arthur Savile's Crime, has remained virtually unrecognized for more than half a century. From an historical viewpoint, it is the precursor of that school of crime writing which the late Will Cuppy so deftly characterized as 'Murder without Tears'" (Queen's Quorum, p.29). Mason 345.
