RUDOLF BONNET (The Netherlands 1895-1978)

Bonnet has painted the same models in another work titled Two Balinese girls with bowls on their heads, and the work has only slight variation from the present work. Similarly both works contained minimal colours and mainly concentrated on the sarong skirt of the 2 girls. It is clear that Bonnet has intended the sarong skirt to be the main decorative element in both works. The quiet elegance exuded by the work was very much orchestrated by Bonnet who was depicting the girls, "with their serious faces, bring the sacrifices to the temple with dignity" (Dr. H. de Roever-Bonnet, Rudolf Bonnet Een zondagskind, Pictures Publishers, Wijk en Aalburg, 1991, p. 82).
