Samuel John Lamorna Birch, R.A., R.W.S. (1869-1955)

This painting probably depicts a view near Auckland and was painted during December 1936. In the autumn of 1936 Birch left for a year's tour of New Zealand and Australia. He arrived in Auckland around November and immediately started painting.

We are very grateful to Austin Wormleighton for his assistance in preparing the above catalogue entry.
