Sir Alfred James Munnings, P.R.A., R.W.S. (British 1878-1959)

Hugh Wortham was the Peterborough column write in the Daily Telegraph, a close personal friend of Sir Alfred Munnings. The present work would appear to be a study for the frontispiece of volume two - A Second Burst - of the artist's autobiography. A similar design can also be seen in the background of a photograph of Munnings in his studio (fig. 1).

We are grateful to Lorian Peralta-Ramos for her kind assistance in the preparation of this catalogue entry.
