ARCHANGEL GABRIEL
GREEK, 19TH CENTURY
The archangel stands in three-quarter position and carries an inscribed scroll, whilst pointing at the rays which emerge from heaven with his right hand. The background and the wings of the angel are painted with pastel colours which contrast to Gabriel's dark garments. This panel is the left side of a couple which would have shown the Annunciation (as the inscription on the top of the panel testifies).
