Johann Gottfried Klinger worked as a specialized flower and insect painter at Meissen between 1726 and 1746. A.B. Allen suggests that he must have copied the flowers and insects from woodcuts or even from life ('Eighteenth century Meissen Porcelain from the collection of Gertrude and Robert T. Anderson', p. 133).
