The present work was created as an illustration for the book Ranch Life and the Hunting-Trail by Theodore Roosevelt, published in 1888. This book served as a personal account of Roosevelt's experiences on his ranch between the years of 1884 and 1886, including descriptions of the various people and animals the author encountered on the frontier.
