AN IRISH GEORGE II MAHOGANY OPEN ARMCHAIR
CIRCA 1740
The tall back and drop-in seat covered in red cotton damask, with outcurved arms, on acanthus-carved cabriole legs terminating in lion-paw feet and joined by a waved X-stretcher
43 in. (109 cm.) high; 23¼ in. (62 cm.) wide; 20½ in. (52 cm.) deep

专家说明

This armchair has the 'shepherd's crook' arm often seen on contemporary English armchairs. It also has a tall rectangular back often found on Irish chairs such as those probably supplied to Thomas Kavanagh (d. 1790) of Borris, Co. Carlow soon after inheriting the Borris estates on the death of his father in 1741.
