A ROMAN MARBLE PORTRAIT HEAD OF A MAN
CIRCA LATE 2ND CENTURY A.D.
With thick curly beard and moustache, the eyes set back beneath the heavy brow, with crescentic pupils and drilled tear-ducts, his hair spiralling from the crown in luxuriant waves and framing the face in thick curls, mounted
13 in. (33 cm.) high

Collection of Robert B. Nevin (1925-2006), California, USA, acquired in the 1970s.

专家说明

This head resembles portraits of Clodius Albinus (150-197 A.D.), an African from Hadrumentum, who became Governor of Britain and later shared consulship with Septimius Severus in 194 A.D. Cf. G.B. Waywell, The Lever and Hope Sculptures, Berlin 1986, no. 55.
