A PALE GREENISH-WHITE JADE CARVING OF THREE GEESE
18TH CENTURY
The three geese are shown swimming atop froth-capped waves, as the pair of adults grasps a stalk of millet in their beaks between them, and their gosling swims alongside. The stone is semi-translucent and of pale greenish-white color.
5¼ in. (13.3 cm.) wide

专家说明

A very similar carving of three geese, of approximately the same size, described as a brushholder (brush rest), from the Palace Museum Collection, Beijing, is illustrated in The Life of Emperor Qianlong, Macao Museum of Art, Macao, 2002, p. 220, no. 63.25. The details of the feathers and the millet, and the composition of the three birds relate very closely to the present carving.
