Modern & Contemporary Art, Asia Pacific

Christie’s Modern and Contemporary Art, Asia Pacific department is dedicated to showcasing works by leading masters of the modern era as well as contemporary luminaries and emerging artists from around the world.

Christie’s pioneered the first sale dedicated to the category of Asian contemporary art in 2004, and presented the market’s first evening sale in the category in 2008. Since then, we have expanded our biannual sales in Hong Kong to encompass work by a range of modern and contemporary artists from around the world, ranging from Zao Wou-Ki, Yoshitomo Nara and Yayoi Kusama to Gerhard Richter and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Our evening sales have also set world auction records for George Condo, and made headlines for selling the most expensive still life by Sanyu.

Based in Hong Kong, the department maintains dedicated specialist teams in New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Jakarta, Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei, reflecting global interest in the market while providing exceptional local expertise to Christie’s clients in every region.

Our global team of specialists is always available for free and confidential valuations of individual works or collections. Please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss buying or selling at auction, online or through Private Sales.
