Modern & Contemporary Middle Eastern Art

In May 2006 Christie’s held the first ever auction of Modern & Contemporary Art in the Middle East, signalling a watershed moment in the art market. Since then our sale weeks in Dubai have attracted some of the most important collectors and institutions in the region and beyond, setting multiple record-breaking results for modern and contemporary Lebanese, Egyptian, Iraqi, Syrian, Saudi-Arabian, Iranian and Turkish art. After more than ten years of developing the regional art market and successes at auction in Dubai, in October 2017 we continued to internationalize the market for Middle Eastern Modern and Contemporary Art by hosting our first sale ever for this category outside the region, at Christie’s London. This is now a fixture in our sales calendar, complimented by the traditional spring sale week in Dubai during the art season in March.

Today we continue to achieve exceptional prices for masters such as Mahmoud Saïd, Charles Hossein Zenderoudi and Shafic Abboud, among others. We are also renowned for selling important private collections, and have held a number of charity auctions supporting educational and social initiatives in the region, which we will continue to do so with the new sales calendar in place. Our experienced team of specialists for the art from the Middle East will continue to operate from Dubai and will be delighted to advice you on any questions you might have regarding selling or buying in this category or across the wider Christie’s offering including private sales.
