Following the success of our 2016 Topographical Pictures sale we are now accepting consignments for 2017. The sale, dedicated to artists active in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australasia during the ages of exploration and empire, will take place on 14 December 2017 during Classic Week in London. The sale is currently led by Irma Stern’s 1946 masterpiece The Watussi Chief’s wife, coming to the market for the first time since the grandparents of the present owner bought the work at Stern’s 1946 exhibition at the Galerie des beaux arts, Paris. The sale will also feature Nicolas-Martin Petit’s breathtaking drawing of the aboriginal resistance fighter Toulgra, drawn by Petit at Port Jackson, New South Wales on Baudin’s voyage to Australia in 1802. It is an exciting discovery – a completely unknown and unpublished sheet by the artist. The sale will also include important paintings by Thomas Baines, Johann Moritz Rugendas, George Chinnery, and Augustin Brunias.
